Some mornings remind us just how extraordinary this coastline is.
This autumn, a spectacular sunrise painted the sky above Dunluce Castle while the Causeway Lass welcomed the new day from the water, with one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic landmarks as her backdrop. Meanwhile, further west on the River Foyle, the Causeway Girl met the same morning light in equally breathtaking style.

Why Autumn Is Made for Sunrise on the Water
There’s a particular kind of light on the Causeway Coast in autumn. The sun rises later and lower, so you don’t have to be out at an unearthly hour to catch it. The colours are deeper, the air is crisp and clear, and the sea often has that calm, glassy look first thing. Seeing Dunluce Castle perched on its clifftop, lit up against that sky, is something you simply can’t get from the road.
It’s the same stretch of coast we’ve been out on since 1998, and it still stops us in our tracks. Even after all these years, we still reach for the camera.
Two Boats, Two Different Views
The Causeway Lass is our large, stable sea fishing boat, based at Portrush Harbour and carrying up to 12 passengers. Heading out early gives you the best of the day: the sunrise, the stillness, and the chance to catch your own breakfast along the way.
The Causeway Girl, our 6m RIB, is available for private hire and bespoke charters. As these photos show, she’s just as at home on the Foyle, where the water and the morning light make a very different but equally beautiful setting.
