Catch Your Breakfast on the Causeway Coast: The North Coast Dippers Take to the Water

There’s something special about being out on the water before the rest of the world wakes up — and this weekend, we had brilliant company to prove it.

The North Coast Dippers, the local sea swimming group who are no strangers to an early alarm and a cold plunge, swapped the shoreline for the Causeway Lass and joined us for one of our Sunrise Catch Your Breakfast tours. Safe to say, they fitted right in.

Great Craic from the Off

The morning had everything. Mackerel were biting, the seals were out doing their thing along the coast, and the craic was mighty from start to finish. We’ll say nothing more about the mermaids and the white elephant — you had to be there.

That’s the thing about these early morning trips — they have a character all of their own. The light is different, the sea is usually calmer, and there’s a real sense of occasion about heading out at dawn, catching your own breakfast and watching the Causeway Coast come to life around you.

What’s a Catch Your Breakfast Tour?

You head out at sunrise, fish for mackerel with the crew’s help — no experience needed — and what you catch, you eat. Fresh mackerel cooked up on the spot, out on the water, with the North Antrim coastline as your backdrop. It’s one of those experiences that’s hard to beat, and genuinely unlike anything you’ll do on dry land.

These tours run right through until Halloween, so there’s plenty of season left to get yourself booked on.
