Dublin Airport Firefighters Conquer Rathlin Island in Epic 50km Charity Row

They did it.

Dublin Airport’s firefighters have successfully completed one of Ireland’s toughest rowing challenges — a gruelling 50km row from Ballycastle, around Rathlin Island and back, in aid of three brilliant charities.

The Causeway Lass was out early on Monday 18th May to support the crew as they set off from Ballycastle, and we couldn’t be prouder to have played a small part in such a remarkable achievement.

One of Ireland’s Toughest Water Challenges

This route is no picnic. The waters around Rathlin Island are some of the most demanding on the entire Irish coastline — three powerful currents converge just off the North Antrim coast, one sweeping down from Scotland, one pushing up from the Irish Sea, and one rolling in from the North Atlantic. For a rowing crew to take that on over 50km is a serious feat of endurance, teamwork and determination.

Three Great Causes

The row was organised by the A.P.F.S. Rowing Club in support of the 2026 staff charities for Dublin and Cork airports:

  • Cancer Fund for Children
  • The Keeley D. Foundation
  • The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust

Every penny raised goes directly to these charities. If you’d like to donate, you can still do so via their fundraising page at idonate.ie/fundraiser/endeavoar2026.

Proud to Support

Events like this are exactly what the North Coast is all about — a stunning, wild, challenging stretch of water that draws out the best in people. We’re honoured that the Causeway Lass could be there to support the crew on the day, and we take our hats off to every one of them.

Well done to all involved. What a day.
